Sonobudoyo Museum is a museum of history and culture of Java, including Java, classic architecture building. The museum is a collection of Javanese culture and history that are considered the most complete after the National Museum of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta. Mendut founded during the reign of King Indra Syailendra dynasty. Inside the many inscriptions Karangtengah 824 AD, mentioned that the king Indra has built a shrine called wenuwana which means bamboo forest.

Mendut Temple is frequently used to celebrate the Waisak day every May full moon and the pilgrims from Indonesia and all parts of the world come to this ceremony. Its architecture is square, and have an entrance on its steps. Its roof is also square and terraced. There are stupas (= bell-shaped structures) on it.
Inside the temple there are statues of Buddha holding a large amount to three: the Dhyani Buddha Wairocana with an attitude of hands (mudras) dharmacakramudra. In front there is a relief in the form of statues of Buddha flanked by a pair of wheels and a deer, a symbol of the Buddha. On the left side there are statues Awalokiteswara (Padmap??i) and the right statue Wajrap??i. Now in front of Buddha statues, incense and incense placed baskets to donate.
