Surf tends to be higher on the Atlantic coast with relatively little surf on the Gulf coast.  Surf temperature is also warmer on the Gulf coast throughout the year. 
Consider your vacation activities and choose the Florida beach best suited for those purposes.Fort De Soto Park Beach earned the number 1 spot in the country in 2005, with the beach at Caladesi Island State Park at number 4 and Cape Florida State Park at number 8!  And again, Caladesi Island wins top honors as the number 1 best beach in 2008!
